Arthur is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, a member of the Australasian Society for Microbiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases. He is also a member of several government advisory committees. Arthur is an Examiner for the College of Pathologists for microbiology. He has authored more than 130 original papers, letters and book chapters. Until recently Arthur has been Clinical Microbiologist at Lab Plus, Auckland City Hospital.

Arthur trained in Dunedin, Invercargill and Auckland and spent three years gaining experience in clinical microbiology at Duke University Medical Centre, North Carolina. Arthur’s research interests include cost effective clinical microbiology, bacteraemia and blood cultures, fungal and mycobacterial infections. He has been involved with Helicobacter pylori studies and its relationship to gastritis and pepticulcer disease. Arthur is involved in infection control and the surveillance of nosocomial infections.

Arthur was appointed Chief Executive Officer at Diagnostic Medlab in March 2005.
