Special Practice Responsibilities
John has recently returned to New Zealand following a 2 year period as Section Head of Dermatopathology with the academic rank of Assistant Professor in Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, USA. Prior to this he worked as a Consultant Dermatopathologist at Diagnostic Medlab (1994-2007) and as a Consultant Dermatologist in both the public and private sectors in Auckland for 13 years.
John has a special interest in the dermatopathologic diagnosis of difficult cutaneous tumours including melanoma and lymphoma. He is also interested in the diagnosis of complex inflammatory skin disease and in its clinico-pathologic correlation and management.
He is currently Vice-President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society and is the Australasian delegate to the International Committee on Dermatopathology. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Dermatopathology, a Member of the New Zealand Dermatologic Society, Inc., a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Society of Mohs Surgery.
