Cervical Cytology
Services
DML is a leading provider of cervical cytology testing services in
New Zealand with an established reputation and experience in
reporting of cervical cytology over the past 60 years. We hold a
contract with the National Screening Unit (NSU) http://www.nsu.govt.nz meeting
all the standards of the National Cervical Screening
Programme (NCSP). We also perform ancillary testing for
women having cervical smears, including Chlamydia testing for
specialist referrals, and when required, HrHPV testing.
DML works in a partnership arrangement with the Cytology section at
Auckland City Hospital's LabPLUS, supporting their
accreditation for cervical cytology. Both laboratories have
selected the ThinPrep® liquid based cytology
method for their cervical smears. ThinPrep® is used by all
specialist gynecologists and by over 92% of all general practices
in the greater Auckland region and at hospital outpatient clinics
in Auckland and Northland.
In January 2011 DML launched automated primary screening of liquid
based cytology using the ThinPrep® Imager system. The
move to automated screening meets the objectives of the NCSP and
reflects a worldwide trend to automated primary screening for
cervical cancer.

Risk Human Papilloma Virus (HrHPV)
Testing
ThinPrep® is FDA-approved for both cervical smear and HPV
testing. All ThinPrep® sample vials are stored on-site
at DML. Samples are retrieved for HrHPV testing if a cervical
smear shows evidence of any abnormalities that qualify for testing
