NON-FUNDED TESTS AND
SERVICES
The Ministry of Health provides funding for
laboratory testing services. Not all services are provided free of
charge and not all patients are eligible for funded tests.
There are some tests and services that must be paid
for, and your health practitioner will advise you if you need to
pay. If you are unsure if there is a charge for tests, please
contact us on(09) 571 6400 or for more information on eligibility
please visit: http://www.moh.govt.nz/eligibility
Immigration Testing
If you need Immigration tests or follow-up Immigration
tests as required by the New Zealand Immigration Service, you can
attend any of our collection centres to have samples collected.
Our current price for the compulsory Immigration Medical Group
test is $110.00 (incl GST). Speak to your medical examiner to
obtain a referral to DML.
Visa Tests
DML provides a sample collection and testing service to
meet Visa requirements for other countries including Australia,
Canada and the United States. Ask your medical examiner for a
referral to a DML collection centre.
Travel Purposes
Check with your doctor before you travel overseas to
ensure all the necessary vaccinations and certificates are
complete. Your doctor will determine what tests, if any, you
require before you set off on your trip. DML is the only laboratory
performing the Rabies test. Check with your doctor if the
laboratory test charges are included in your consultation or paid
separately.
Overseas Tourists and Non-Residents
If you are visiting New Zealand from overseas, or you are
a non-resident, DML can provide a full range of sample collection
and testing services. Visit any of our collection centres for
further information.
Patient Self-Referrals
We understand that people want to be actively involved in
their healthcare. Registered Medical Practitioners are best placed
to advise people on appropriate healthcare including laboratory
testing and result interpretation. They know your medical history
and so are able to work with you to determine what tests or
treatment is best suited for you.
However, you are able to visit one of our collection rooms to
self-request a range of blood tests that do not need the approval
of a registered health practitioner. You will need to pay for the
tests you request and we will need your personal details such as
name, date of birth and contact details. Results are posted to you
within New Zealand. We do not provide clinical advice or result
interpretation on self-requested tests.
